SecondBite simply would not exist without an amazing team of volunteers! Our volunteers donate their time and energy to help us rescue edible, nutritious food that was heading for landfill and give it to people in need, free of charge.
If you would like to give something special back to your local community and have a positive impact on the environment, become an active part of the SecondBite Team and sign up as a volunteer. There are many ways to get involved:
- Join a team collecting surplus food from your local markets
- Assist in one of our warehouses, sorting rescued food and preparing deliveries
- Help us with fundraising events and activities
Food Rescue Volunteers - Heidelberg West Warehouse
Food rescue volunteers help us sort rescued produce at our warehouse, making sure it's ready to be donated to food programs run by our community partners. Shifts are available Monday-Friday from 8am-2pm, with volunteers shifts lasting between 3-4 hours.
All volunteers must be 18 years or older and the role involves some manual handling.
Market Volunteers - Melbourne
Our Market Volunteers help us rescue food at weekend markets across Melbourne. Working as part of a team, Market Volunteers collect food donations from stallholders as the market closes for the day. Shifts last 1-2 hours and you can join one of our teams as an individual, or sign up with friends, family or colleagues as part of a group.
Our team of Market Volunteers assist with collecting and sorting rescued food at South Melbourne Market on Sundays, from 3.45pm to 4.45pm. Market shifts involve: meeting a SecondBite driver and other volunteers at the market, working as a team to collect food donations from stallholders as the market is closing for the day, then helping the driver to sort and load the food into the SecondBite van. Groups of volunteers are also encouraged to sign up together.
SecondBite offers regular corporate volunteering opportunities in our Heidelberg West Warehouse as well as one-off volunteering events. Corporate volunteering with SecondBite is a great team-building activity and also allows your organisation the chance to make a meaningful contribution to the community.
Meals that Matter - Sydney
For Sydney-based organisations looking for a team building event with a difference, SecondBite’s Meals that Matter with Our Big Kitchen (OBK) offers an engaging experience, focused on giving back to the community.
A typical session involves team members working together to prepare and cook 200 meals for individuals and families in need. Your staff will learn about food insecurity in Australia, the work SecondBite does to address this, the people we support, and will share a meal that they have created together.
Food Delivery Assistants - QLD
As a Food Delivery Assistant, you would accompany our Drivers on their daily runs and assist with the collection and delivery of food around Brisbane. Shifts are from 7am-3pm, Monday-Friday.
We are always looking to get more volunteers involved right around the country. If you are interested please get in contact by using the form below or phone us at Head Office on 03 9376 3800.
Please note that SecondBite does not operate on public holidays.
